Computer Applications Technology
Computer Applications Technology (CAT) is the study of the integrated components of a computer system (hardware and software) and the practical techniques for their efficient use and application to solve everyday problems. The solutions to problems are designed, managed and processed via end-user applications and communicated using appropriate information and communication technologies (ICTs). ICTs are the combination of networks, hardware and software, as well as the means of communication, collaboration and engagement that enable the processing, management and exchange of data, information, and knowledge.
The main topics included in the curriculum are: solution development, system technologies, internet technologies, network technologies, information management and social implications.

Application
CAT is a subject that complements all other subjects during grades 10 to 12 and prepares learners for higher education in various fields. The subject allows learners to develop basic to advance end user computer skills and can be used in various fields such as office administration, entrepreneurship, communication, marketing, teaching, business, tourism, law etc. Although it is not a requirement for any tertiary studies, in the digital age, very few careers nowadays do not demand a sound level of computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation skills.
